The Alternative Press Expo is one of the largest gatherings of indie comics publishers in the nation, attracting thousands of attendees each year. I was pleasantly surprised to see one of my favorite publishers represented at APE this year: Drawn and Quarterly. I took a trip to the SMX East Search Engine Marketing Expo held at the Jacob Javitz Center on Tuesday to check out the promotional giveaways on display. After picking up my expo ID pass at the main desk, I received my first promo: this reusable tote bag imprinted with a sponsor logo (Efficient Frontier) as well as the SMX conference logo. The bag appears to be made from recycled materials, but there’s no tag to verify it.

Reusable tote bags are an excellent giveaway at schwag-friendly trade shows. Everywhere I looked, attendees were carrying their tote bags filled to the brim with giveaways from other companies. This meant that Efficient Frontier was getting the best exposure.
