Bank of America is having quite the bag promotion going on right now if you sign up for an account. Just look at the variety they’re giving away! You can (apparently, I did not stop to listen to the sales pitch) choose from an insulated grocery tote, what looks like a jute tote, or a regular old shopping tote. I guess if bags are your bag, you’ll want to be banking with Bank of America!

Grocery totes are becoming an increasingly popular alternative to plastic bags, and they are coming out with newer and better ways to entice people to switch over. For example, you can now get insulated grocery totes which, as the name suggests, are insulated to keep frozen and refrigerated items cool as you shop and transport your groceries home. Unlike regular grocery totes, they typically have velcro or a zipper at the top to seal it shut and really lock in the cold. This is something plastic bags can’t offer, making excuses not to go green harder and harder to come by.

So I’ve discovered another benefit of the reusable non-woven tote: durability. I know these promotional bags are hot enough right now without anyone singing their praises, but I really wish I had decided to throw all of my stuff into one of those this morning instead of my borderline-expensive Desigual tote WHICH BROKE on my way to work. Imagine stepping out of the subway and trying to juggle a custom coffee mug and umbrella, and then having the strap on your over-stuffed bag break. Definitely not the best way to start the day. These bags are meant to carry heavy groceries– like gallons of milk– over and over again, so you can bet they’ll be able to endure whatever you throw in them.

I’ve seen plenty of promotional grocery totes lately, but never a netted one like this. Although there wouldn’t be much room for a logo, a netted bag like this will help you stand out in the crowd. Plus, you can still see your items, much like a plastic bag.

The switch from plastic shopping bags to reusuable shopping tote bags is quickly becoming popular, especially with a few cities and states taxing citizens for using plastic bags. These Trader Joe’s non-woven tote bags are a great reusable product.
